Well summer has come to an end. It is time to get the classroom ready and start planning out the year. I am excited that this year I actually have my own classroom with my own students to teach! It doesn't seem like that long ago I was getting ready for student teaching and now I am getting ready for my VERY OWN classroom. I am beyond excited!
So for those of you who don't know, this job at Our Lady of Lake Huron (OLLH) came about rather quickly. I applied for the job right before the 4th of July. I had also applied for another job at Church School (a one-room school house). I hadn't heard anything from either school for a while so I kind of lost hope. Monday, July 18, Church School called and we set up for an interview on Wednesday. 20 minutes later, OLLH called and wanted to interview me also on Wednesday. Wednesday I interviewed at both schools. Thursday, OLLH called me and asked if I could come in to meet with the priest. Friday, I met with the priest and they offered me the job. I had a smile on my face for the rest of the weekend. The following week, I went on vacation and when I got back, I signed the paperwork, got my keys, and began organizing my classroom. I have been there quite a bit these last few weeks and it is finally looking like a classroom. I am really happy with the way things turned out in my classroom. I will be teaching reading, writing, spelling, math, science, social studies, and religion to 12 lucky 4th graders. A big change from my 29 5th graders and 27 4th graders I had last year but I am ready for it!
I feel so blessed to have been given the opportunity to teach at this school. This is where I grew up, this is where I go to church. I couldn't have asked for a better job. Yes, I know the pay isn't great but I am HAPPY! I am happy to have not only found a job, but have a job so close to home where I can live with mom and dad. A job where I feel comfortable with the staff, parents, and students. A job where I can wake up every morning and say, "Yes, this is what I want to do for the rest of my life."
I'm starting a new chapter in my life now. My family and friends have been behind me 100% and I can't thank them enough for their love and support. I've grown closer with some people and I've lost some others along the way. I'm learning from my mistakes and I am sure I will keep learning as this year goes on. I started the summer off unsure of where life would take me but now, I am set. I know where I will be for a while and I know that I am going to be happy. I am surrounded by people who love me, care for me, and support me. Most importantly though, I am doing what I love to do...TEACH!
